Why learn a language?
Travel
Even a little knowledge of the language can make a difference in attitude when you meet people from other countries. Speaking another language helps to break down barriers.
Work and business
It can help you give an added advantage in your career if you work for an international firm or a company with international customers or contacts.
Music, film, arts and culture
If you like literature, films or music from other countries, learning the language will help your appreciation and understanding.
For a challenge
You can learn a language in short, bite-sized sessions and you'll enjoy a sense of satisfaction from achieving short-term goals, such as learning how to say hello, introducing yourself or numbers 1-10.

Do you think libraries should be free for the public to use? Give your reasons why, or why not?
I am a firm believer in the free and widespread use of libraries to improve the knowledge of all readers. There is something quite wonderful about reading learned books in a library atmosphere of calm and serenity.

Do you think online reading and electronic devices like the Kindle where you can download books will ever replace the library? Do you like to study or work in the library?
Electronic books such as Kindle enable the reader to have a vast library of books in one small space and to consult them whenever needed.  However,  an electronic book can never have the feel and smell of a real book. In some cases the cost of an electronic edition is greater that buying a second-hand one. In ever case like this, I'd buy the second-hand real book.
